Darren do you want to introduce yourself and talk a little bit about the business that you run a little bit about Simcott that kind of thing y my name is Darren Ford I'm the carbon reduction director at Simcott Renewables and we basically specialize in helping commercial businesses reduce their carbon emissions and hopefully say foring on their energy bills in the process perfect so how long have you been working with us so far with you guys now for about 8 to 10 weeks you you made contact with us as a lot of marketeers do I got to say you you stood
out from the crowd in terms of your proposition mainly from the point of view you were prepared to put your time and effort into finding leads without this constant upfront feed scenario that everybody else wants also you were far more realistic with what the expectations were you weren't telling me you're going to get me 200 leads a week you weren't telling me it's going to be this that and all the other you were like quite clear quite precise I can get your leads I'm going to charge you at X Fe if you get to a SAT sales appointment with them very and reasonable and
then we want a percentage on the back of the deal if it gets through to completion and that seemed like somebody or like the pair if you wanted to invest in my business as much as I need to invest in your business and that's the way I like to do business with people who have got skin in the game so I was quite impressed with that and hence why we are working with you yeah I love it I mean that's sort of why we wanted to work with you as well because you guys seemed proper saw your a little white board behind you
so I knew you were on it actually b list of things to get right next one yeah and you actually made an effort as well to like show us through more than a lot of other clients would actually do so credit to you I think you're probably one of the most technical installers we've ever dealt with so if anyone is looking to reduce their energy spend then Darren's definitely the person you want be between to and how many leads you think we've probably generated you so far obviously you know the first couple of weeks are just on boarding getting
you set up and then from that point onwards I'd say it's been pretty consistent at the start it was probably like one a week but that was fine because we were just getting to know each other and sort of go through our processes and we were doing the meetings together I think we've had two or three this week from you which again is perfectly fine you know commercial leads are a lot more time intensive than residential leads so to service them properly you have to make sure you give them time and and space so if you were trying to give me 10 a week
very quickly we would overwhelmed we can do 10 the first week and maybe 10 the second week but you get on to the third week and and all of a sudden you're not chasing people and calling people and at the end of the day we're both going to make more money if we close the leads and we're not just busy fools on that so there's there's definitely a nice Pace of work coming through I can also see big opportunities for ourselves on different product groups moving forward there are some new markets coming on and I think we're we're learning from each
other as we go I'm quite impressed with the your sort of thought pricesses around our websites and stuff like that and we probably going to engage you to do some of the work on the websites in the future I I run a number of different businesses solar panels being one of them and the amount of inbound Co calling and inbound email marketing idea is significant it is different being a business owner and Runner than it than it is in the residential you know if somebody's trying to ring me in a residential setting I have no interest I do tend to give people calling
on another business opportunity or emailing me on business a little bit more time because you know sometimes there is actually something there that is is of Interest I think one of the unique selling points for yourself is particularly your concept of using video to try and engage with the clients it's it's quite unique I've never received a inbound email marketing message that resulted in get well either had any a video in it to start with or results in getting questions answered with little vill little snapshot videos and stuff so I definitely think it's your secret Source at the moment you
need to keep it quite close to your chest so that other people don't C you because I think once it gets out there it would be quite I think everybody would start doing it and then it's going to lose its its specialness but it does seem to be getting some quite difficult character to some people who are exceptionally busy and have a significant workload on to engage with you and and and therefore us so yeah it's a good idea and I think you're executing it well and I think it will evolve and hopefully bear fruit for all of us 100% and talking about
You know contacting higher level you know people at these businesses what would you say the quality of the leads we're sort of producing are in terms yeah we are we definitely getting the right people what is interesting is the the sheer volume that some of these people have like one of the clients you're given us today is like I did the design against the postcode that was delivered got to speak to him it's the wrong building well it's not the first time I've done that so that that's fine but then he says I don't actually want it on that building because it's a
lease hold I'm just about to go into my spill about wealth you know minum Energy Efficiency standards three elderly SS all the rest of it he says but I've got six other that we do own and I've got an 18 acre field yeah and you're like okay great let's let's have a chat about that in the renewable space is probably one of our best decisions we've made and there is offer companies like you guys you know those sort of clients and those sort of opportunities to deal with those sort of large scale companies I think as well to sort bear in mind in terms of
opportunities there's 20 gws of solar PV installed in the UK at the moment and the the state position of the government any government is to get to 70 by 2050 that's another 50 kilowatts that's two sorry gigawatts not kilowatts so it's another two gws of installations per year every year a lot of panels it's a lot of panels you know I mean even even just from the care home campaign that we were running for you recently I think we got around 12 to 15 good opportunities we've done a design on free but we're still trying to book in a call with him
we got that Little Village which I think is an Autism care site which might be potential solar farm we've got a bundle of four care homes that were pricing up initially for that I think they own 30 Care Homes overall all but there's lots of opportun I feel like I feel like care homes for some reason is like a it's a big industry to hit right now two two things with Care Homes one it's a grow industry because everyone's getting freaking older and sicker yeah two they use a vast amount of energy because there's people in them 24 hours
a day and they're heating it and they're lighting it and they're cooking and they're cleaning and they're using you know the machine that goes Bing to keep people alive and all that sort of stuff so they are very very high energy users so yeah if you could get get into them then yeah there's definitely big opportunity Saint with hospitals schools less so but I've got a chain of schools I'm working with at the moment and that's looking quite promising as well so yeah there there's just literally everywhere you look the sort of quality of the leads that we produced how would you sort
of rate it in comparison to other agencies or sdrs or lead producers that you've ever work with in the past so the quality of your Le is very good because you put a lot of time and effort in into it before it arrives to me at your at your customers and the other thing as well is obviously you know in terms of paying for it I'm paying at the point where I guess that appointment so your customer support and your support in pushing and getting the appointments booked and such like it's very good and follow up appointment Ms and hecking is everything booked in
and stuff like that so yeah it's very good I think that's probably it's not cheap but it's very good I think that's probably why a model works for companies like yourselves because it allows you to sort of scale out without adding extra workload on that makes any sense sort of work let us get the you know the nitty-gritty done and do the hard work on the back end and then gets to you you know a level where you can do what you do best which is I mean it's not it's not easy but it's you know it's sort of put on a play for
you to go and Pitch them on solar so yeah I mean you've got the right person he's interested and engaged and has agree to the meetings and then actually turns up and if they don't turn up I don't pay and if they do turn up then we then we pay but you know you keep you keep pushing and pushing and pushing last quick question for you would you recommend us to other installers who are looking to get more not a bloody hope no I'm keeping you all to my myself and I'm not sharing with anybody yeah of course with Lads as long as I
get my first share of the pie coming through we're all good you're very good at at what you do and I would recommend you other install this yeah thank you very much this nice on Cheers Dar good

Who Simcott Renewables are
Simcott Renewables helps commercial businesses cut their carbon emissions and their energy bills. Darren Ford is its carbon reduction director and runs several businesses, solar being one of them.
The situation
Like many installers, Simcott is approached by marketers constantly. Most want an up-front fee and promise large numbers of leads, and Simcott had struggled with other agencies.
What TNW delivered
Darren says TNW stood out because it was willing to invest its own time and effort in finding leads without a constant up-front fee, and it was realistic about what to expect: a clear charge for a sat sales appointment. After onboarding, the flow started at about one a week and grew to two or three; he values the pace because commercial leads need time to be served properly.
He credits TNW's use of short videos in outreach emails with engaging very busy people. One lead's postcode pointed to a leasehold building, but the owner turned out to have six buildings he owned and an 18-acre field. A care home campaign produced around 12 to 15 good opportunities, including a bundle of four care homes from a group with about 30. Darren says the quality comes from the work TNW puts in before a lead arrives, and he does not pay if the customer does not turn up.
The model behind it is the same for every installer: TNW finds and qualifies the business, books the meeting into your diary and you pay per qualified, attended appointment, not per raw enquiry or a monthly retainer. Read how pay per appointment commercial solar leads work, or see the checks behind each booking in how to qualify commercial solar leads.
